Cole Reynolds had it all. And then one night he makes a bad choice... and loses everything.
When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he'd be able to lean on his best friends. The best friends that have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they're gone. Worse, there's the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.
Everyone assures him that they know it wasn't intentional and yet he can't ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won't so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It's not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.
And there's only one person who can give that to him...
I received this ARC for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
As a fan of K.A. Tuckers Ten Tiny Breaths, I was beyond happy to get a glimpse into Trents head. And after reading In Her Wake, Im so glad I did. Kaceys story is by far my favorite of the seriesafter all, it was her story that made me a fan. There are always two sides of every story and being able to read Trents was a neat opportunity.
Ten Tiny Breaths was a deeply, emotional roller-coaster, and while In Her Breath doesnt dwell too much on the horrors of that night, Trents demons are ever-present. I dont think Id realized just how scarred Trent also was until I read his side of the story. Reading his words, however, brought home the fact that Kacey and Liv werent the only ones who suffered a tragedy.
In Her Wake is the standard short novella, but it packs one hell of a punch. As always, Tuckers words bring forth a great deal of emotion and, dare I say it, a major case of the feels. Im sort of glad Tucker chose not to retell Ten Tiny Breaths in Trents perspective But at the same time, Im sort of wishing she had. Regardless, if youre a fan of the Ten Tiny Breaths series, then In Her Wake is one should not miss. And if youre not a fan? Then get on board!
